Just hours after three former backup dancers for pop star Lizzo filed lawsuit against the singer Tuesday, accusing her of sexual harassment, fat shaming and creating a hostile work environment, three more former colleagues have come forward to say they witnessed or experienced mistreatment. The female former colleagues include another backup dancer for Lizzo and a filmmaker hired to make a documentary about the singer, who said she left the project after two weeks because she “was treated with such disrespect” and “witnessed how self-centered, arrogant and unkind she is.”“I felt gaslit and was deeply hurt, but I’ve healed,” filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison said on Instagram about the singer. “Reading these reports made me realize how dangerous a situation it was. This kind of abuse of power happens far too often. Much love and support to the dancers.”The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court by three dancers, Arian...MLB trade deadline analysis: Evaluating SF Giants’ moves, state of NL playoff race

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants prize pitch selection in their hitters; if it’s not something they can drive, lay off.At the trade deadline, Farhan Zaidi didn’t get anything in his hot zone.He laid off, stayed back and let other teams take their hacks. Inevitably, there will be some home runs. There will also be a lot of whiffs. (This is modern baseball, after all.)“Looking at the landscape of the National League, even post-trade deadline, I don’t really see a seismic shift,” Zaidi said Tuesday. “If the goal is to do something, we could’ve traded half our farm system for a fifth starter. Somebody would’ve happily agreed to that deal. But we didn’t do something just because there was nothing that made sense.”It wasn’t a particularly active trade market, especially in the National League, and to call the Giants one of the deadline’s losers — at The Athletic, Jim Bowden gave them a ‘D’ grade and called their lack of activity ...Lake Tahoe foot-fondling suspect arrested in Merced County

A month after women at a Lake Tahoe resort reported that they awoke to find a stranger fondling their feet, a Merced County man has been accused of the crime. The intrusions were reported on July 2 and July 3 by two women staying separately at Club Wyndham South Shore, in Zephyr Cove, Nev., the Douglas County sheriff’s office said. Each woman said she woke up around 4:30 a.m. because a man was sitting on her bed and rubbing her feet. When the victim woke up, the fondler fled through a exterior sliding door. Both units were on the ground floor, and it is thought that the sliding doors had been left unlocked.Unspecified forensic evidence led sheriff’s investigators to suspect a 26-year-old man from Atwater, Calif. On contacting law enforcement officers in Merced County, they learned that the man had been suspected there of crimes including trespassing and theft of women’s shoes. On Tuesday, Aug. 1, the man was arrested at his home. He was booked into Merced County Jail...Cases of leprosy rising in Florida, new report shows

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted in a new Emerging Infectious Diseases report on Tuesday that cases of leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, are rising in Florida. The infectious disease primarily affects the skin and nervous system and can be easy to treat if caught early.Leprosy has been historically uncommon in the United States, but has more than doubled in the South over the last 10 years. Research discussed in the CDC’s August issue of the Emerging Infectious Diseases notes that Central Florida has accounted for 81% of reported cases in the state and almost one-fifth of reported cases nationwide. They believe Central Florida might be an endemic location for the disease.Because Florida, particularly Central Florida, has an increasing number of cases, the author of the case report is recommending that physicians, when treating patients with symptoms of leprosy, ask them if they have traveled to or lived in Florida.According to the National Hansen’s Dis...San Jose: Student hospitalized after being found unresponsive in school pool

Should the Antioch City Council hire the city’s next police chief or should the city manager make the appointment as has been done in the past? That’s the question the City Council will answer at its next meeting on Tuesday when it considers whether to move forward with a proposal to give council members the authority to hire, supervise and remove the police chief. Currently, the council hires the city attorney and the city manager, who in turn appoints and supervises the chief. The idea of the council taking an active role in hiring a chief first emerged in 2020 and during discussions on police reform in 2021. Later that year, Mayor Lamar Thorpe and Mayor Pro-Tem Tamisha Torres-Walker, during a police oversight standing committee, asked staff for a draft of a police chief hiring process. The proposal included having a community representative from each district take part in the hiring process, with the council ratifying the contract. But by 2022, the FBI and District Attroney’s ...Salesforce cutting more jobs following 10% reduction: reports

WASHINGTON (AP) — After two previous indictments, the novelty of prosecuting a former president may have worn off. But the latest criminal charges against Donald Trump represent an unprecedented stress test for the American political system. Trump is accused of conspiracy and obstruction for trying to overturn his 2020 election loss, in a criminal case emerging at the same time he is asking voters to send him back to the White House. The overlapping legal and political dramas represent a stark challenge for President Joe Biden just as he is running for reelection in 2024. Although Biden has made protecting democracy a cornerstone of his agenda and campaign, he also has pledged to respect the independence of the judicial process. The result is that Biden probably will feel compelled to remain quiet about a court case that could send the leading Republican presidential candidate to prison, even though the charges hinge on behavior that Biden has described as an existential threat. “That...Latest news
