Kiszla: Broncos are back in playoff contention because Russell Wilson, Mr. Unlimited, has embraced his limitations

On the occasion of his 35th birthday, let us celebrate Russell Wilson for embracing one of the hardest things for the male ego to do. The quarterback formerly known as Mr. Unlimited has accepted he isn’t as good as he once was.“I feel great. I feel young. I feel fast. I feel confident,” Wilson said Wednesday, explaining why he’s not afraid of any edge rusher or Father Time catching him from behind. At 35, Wilson almost certainly will never again be a candidate for MVP of the NFL. But neither should we expect him to suffer a midlife crisis, because Wilson has adopted a brave refusal to be entrapped by his ego. After a horrendous 1-5 start, the Broncos have played themselves back into playoff contention, while Wilson has inserted himself into the conversation about Comeback Player of the Year, in no small measure because Russ has decided he would rather win than cook. While it’s hard to argue Wilson is worth the five-year, $245 million contract extension that doesn’t kick in until next s...Larchmont Village residents disturbed over increase in violent crimes

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Amari Williams blocked a shot that ignited a Drexel celebration — yellow and blue streamers were chucked on the court — decades in the making for a program long the outsider on the Philly hoops scene.Let the old-timers spin tales about the faded, glory days of the Big 5.The Dragons — with all of five total NCAA Tournament appearances — crashed the City Series this season and showed life in a reimagined pseudo-conference can be pretty glorious in the present, too.Williams scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked No. 18 Villanova’s tying-attempt with 3 seconds left to help Drexel upset the Wildcats 57-55 on Saturday in the inaugural Big 5 Classic at the Wells Fargo Center.Turns out, the sixth team in the Big 5 can play some ball.“We weren’t in awe,” Drexel coach Zach Spiker said, “at all.”With good reason, perhaps.Villanova (6-3) didn’t just lose, it fell to 0-3 in a series of Big 5 games that was designed to crown a city basketball champion. The Big 5 Cla...No. 8 Alabama sets off CFP chaos, No. 7 Texas makes emphatic case as selection controversy looms

The final four-team College Football Playoff is poised to be the most controversial yet.No. 8 Alabama was the agent of chaos Saturday, upsetting No. 1 Georgia for the Southeastern Conference title and ending the two-time defending national champ’s 29-game winning streak.“Georgia was No. 1, right? You beat the No. 1 team, what does that make us?” Alabama quarterback Jalen Miltoe told reporters. If only it was so simple. With No. 2 Michigan and No. 4 Florida State still to play their conference title games, only one spot appeared locked up: No. 3 Washington (13-0) won the Pac-12 title Friday night. The field for the last CFP before it expands to 12 next year will be set Sunday, but sorting through this year’s unusually crowded group contenders might make the selection committee wish it could fast forward to the new format.Rarely in the nine years the national champion has been decided by a four-team playoff has the bracket failed to fall into place with little debate. In 2014...Sebastian Aho scores twice as Carolina Hurricanes cruise past Buffalo Sabres 6-2
