As usual, September is the closest Colorado will get to the cold-weather thrills of playoff baseball. The Rockies can try to conjure a little October excitement from time to time, but the real postseason contenders often arrive to put the last-place teams in their place. The Rockies coughed up a ninth-inning lead Monday night to drop their series opener 5-4 to the Cubs at Coors Field. Brenton Doyle singled home tying and go-ahead runs in the seventh, but Yan Gomes returned the favor in the top of the ninth, handing Tyler Kinley a blown save and Colorado (51-91) its fifth consecutive loss.Aside from a three-run seventh, Colorado only mustered four hits as the summer heat and long-fly-ball tendencies of the Front Range chilled out, a reminder that this unflattering 2023 season is almost over. The Rockies have failed to hit a home run in eight of their last nine games. They’re playing for pride, prospects and to avoid 100 losses in these final weeks, while the Cubs are jockeying fo...Summit Event Center in Aurora sends debit cards as deposit refund after sudden closure

FORT COLLINS — Shilo Sanders took an official visit to Canvas Stadium as a Texas teenager back in December 2018, two CSU coaches ago. How different this little tale could’ve gone.“Deion Sanders had had a lot of public critics. I’m not one of them,” the current Rams football coach, Jay Norvell, said to lead off his Monday news conference in FoCo.“I really respect all head coaches and the sacrifices that they’ve had to make to become head coaches. And I appreciate the path that they have to go through to get there, and especially African American coaches. And so I was happy to see Deion get his opportunity. I had to wait a long time to get mine.”History says the Rams, who are coming off a bye and into the cauldron of Folsom Field Saturday for the Rocky Mountain Showdown, have the right man in Norvell. But the Twilight Zone says Coach Prime and his family might’ve looked pretty good in green and gold, too.And in the case of Shilo and Shed...Hemet police investigating 'sex predator' accusations against school district employee

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand’s economy is expected to remain sluggish for another two years, although the overall picture is rosier than many observers had feared, new figures released Tuesday indicate. The nation’s Treasury released the projections ahead of an election next month. They showed a slight deterioration from earlier predictions, with tax takes lower than expected and high inflation causing ongoing headaches.Unemployment is expected to jump from a current rate of 3.6% to 5.4% in 2025 before falling again, while economic growth is expected to fall from 3.1% this year to 1.3% next year, before bouncing back to 3.3% by 2026. Net debt as a percentage of the economy is expected to peak at 23% in 2025. Treasury said subdued house price growth and a tougher labor market would dampen household wealth and incomes, and that exporters, including farmers, faced ongoing headwinds. A predicted return to the government running budget surpluses was pushed back by a year unt...Yandy Díaz hits his 20th homer as Tampa Bay Rays beat Minnesota Twins 7-4
