Opinion: Reckoning with Colorado’s racist roots for a more equitable future

We are experiencing a systematic attack on the truthful telling of history. This should concern us all.At a time when dedicated national efforts attempt to prevent or reframe the teaching of Black history and the history of other oppressed groups, it is more important than ever that we work to fully understand and reckon with our past.Racial justice studies are an important tool that governments use to acknowledge history, clarify how history informs social and economic realities in the present, and make informed decisions about how to write a stronger tomorrow, both for historically oppressed groups and for us all.Recent in-depth coverage from The Denver Post highlighted Colorado’s own tragic legacy of segregation, redlining, violence, and government-backed systematic racism faced by Black Coloradans. This dark part of our state’s history is something that many children won’t learn about in school. As a result, many Colorado natives remain uninformed and unaware of the way that rac...10 Fwy could reopen in 3 to 5 weeks; no demolition necessary, Newsom says

Just days after a massive blaze destroyed part of the 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, another fire broke out under a different freeway. Calls regarding active flames first came in from commuters driving near the interchange of the 105 and 110 freeways in South Los Angeles around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Footage from Sky5 showed a patch of land burning next to the transition ramp between the eastbound 105 and southbound 110 near residences on a dead-end street. 10 Freeway fire set with ‘malice intent,’ Newsom says According to KTLA 5’s Rich Prickett, the flames appeared to have spread from an encampment to nearby vegetation. “From what we’re seeing here from Sky5, it would appear that it is some sort of encampment that is burning under the overpass,” Prickett said. “For right now it’s contained in that one little area.” Just days after a massive blaze destroyed part of the 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, another fire broke out under a different free...Police search for killer after young woman found dead in O.C.

Slather it onto toasted crostini or crackers for an easy, fuss-free party snack.Camembert is Brie’s bolder, earthier sibling and pairs beautifully with the fruity flavor of pomegranate and persimmon, although Brie certainly can be substituted. All the major theme park companies have released their quarterly financial earnings reports, and many of those statements shared a common theme — “It’s all the weather’s fault.”Several companies blamed the weather at least in part for disappointing financial results in 2023. Following a rainy spring, smoke from Canadian wildfires and the brutal heat of summer, enough people stayed home that the parks noticed their absence on their bottom lines. Not every park suffered, however. The new Super Nintendo World pushed Universal Studios Hollywood to record attendance numbers this year, while the Disney100 celebrations and new attractions helped Disneyland put even more distance between itself and other local rivals. The success that Disney and Universal enjoyed this year showed that it is possible to build attractions whose popularity is resistant to outside challenges, including the weather.Companies such SeaWorld and the soon-to-be combined Six Flags and Cedar Fair might hope that invest...Bay Area cocktail recipes: Mostly Classic Irish Coffee
