Troubled Silicon Valley Bank acquired by First Citizens

NEW YORK (AP) — First Citizens will acquire much of Silicon Valley Bank, the tech-focused financial institution that collapsed this month, setting off a chain reaction that caused a second bank to fail and tested faith in the global banking sector. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and other regulators had already taken extraordinary steps to head off a wider banking crisis by guaranteeing that depositors in SVB and failed Signature Bank would be able to access all of their money. While more than half of Silicon Valley’s assets will remain in U.S. receivership, the First Citizens deal announced late Sunday, at least initially, seemed to achieve what regulators have sought: a shoring up of trust in U.S. regional banks. At the opening bell Monday, shares of midsized banks like Keycorp, Zions and First Horizon rose 8%. First Republic Bank, which received a $30 billion rescue package from 11 of the biggest banks in the country as it teetered in the wake of the Silicon Valley collapse, ju...Bank of America signs on as new Boston Marathon sponsor

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Marathon has agreed to a 10-year sponsorship deal with Bank of America that organizers hope will allow the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual 26.2-mile road race to grow over the next decade while maintaining its historic character.Financial terms of the deal announced Monday were not disclosed. But the deal does not include the naming rights that typically allow the sponsor to boost its profile and an event to boost its coffers.“Why would you ever change a legacy? … No, we’re not going to do that,” said David Tyrie, Bank of America’s chief digital officer and chief marketing officer. “Everything you know and love about the Boston Marathon — and things that are around it — will continue. And then there’s going to be (an additional) 30% that we haven’t figured out yet that are going to be the taking it to the next level thing. And those are really exciting ones.”The bank already had a foot in the distance-running world as the sponsor of th...Protestas y crisis política en Israel: última hora y noticias en vivo

Installing a home video camera security surveillance system has never been easier. Some of the best don’t even require hard-wiring. And many good systems don’t cost much.“The surveillance systems you can buy are not only more affordable, they often have much better quality that what you would have found even a decade ago. They can record more video and they are smaller,” said Jacob Channel at LendingTree. Its recent survey of homeowners found that 51% of U.S. homeowners are now utilizing some form of surveillance technology in or around their homes. That jumped to 72% among millennial homeowners with children.Older surveillance systems often took professional installation and intrusive wiring. Many new systems don’t. But that can make security cameras their own security risk.“They can be susceptible to hackers. So do keep that in mind if you do get these types of cameras be sure that they’re not only on a password protected WiFi network, but ...Snowfall totals: Here’s how much snow fell in your city on Monday

PARIS — France’s National Assembly website was brought down Monday in a cyberattack claimed by pro-Russian hackers. “We decided to repeat our recent trip to France, where protests against [French President Emmanuel] Macron, who decided not to give a damn about the French and continues to ‘serve’ Ukrainian neo-Nazis, still do not subside,” hacker group NoName057(16) wrote on its Telegram channel. The pro-Kremlin group is behind a string of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks in recent months, including on Polish airport and e-government websites after Warsaw delivered Leopard tanks to Ukraine, but also against targets in Denmark, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. National Assembly officials told franceinfo they couldn’t confirm yet that the cyberattack came from Russian hackers but was working on “identification.” The hacker group claimed they targeted the French institution because of Macron’s highly unpopular pension re...Ralphie, the ‘demon dog’ of Niagara, has finally been adopted
