Leading up to Sunday’s game at CHS Field, the Saints had flat out destroyed Gwinnett pitching for four straight days, reaching double digits in runs in four victories over the Triple-A team of the Atlanta Braves. The carnage continued in Game 5 of the series, with the Saints adding the distinction of doing most of their damage against 20-year-old AJ Smith-Shawver, who is ranked the No. 1 prospect in the Atlanta organization by MLB.com.Outfielder Andrew Stevenson, who continues to make a strong case for getting another shot in the major leagues, led the charge with a second-inning grand slam as the Saints beat the Stripers 11-5. Trevor Larnach, Andrew Bechtold and Mark Contreras also homered for the Saints.Stevenson, the Saints’ primary leadoff hitter, hit .396 in June, and after getting a day off on Saturday, picked right back up where he left off, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. He also had a 16-game hitting streak from May 10 to May 28 this season.“It’s getting warm out, ...MN opens search for marijuana manager

North Oaks’ Frankie Capan III finished fourth in the Memorial Health Championship after firing a 4-under round of 67 in the final round Sunday in Springfield, Ill.The 23-year-old started the day in solo second, just one shot back of leader Paul Barjon. But the front 9 was unkind to Capan, who shot a 35 going out, largely due to an out-of-bounds tee shot on the eighth hole that led to a double bogey. That all-but eliminated Capan from contention for the victory. But he demonstrated grit on the back nine, going 4-under down the stretch to secure a top-five finish.Barjon, Capan’s playing partner in the final ground, shot a 65 to finish 26-under for the tournament to win the event by a single stroke. Capan was three off the overall pace. While Capan had designs on winning the tournament entering the final round — a result that would have boosted him into the top 10 of the season-long points race on the Korn Ferry Tour — Sunday’s finish was still good enough t...Child killed after fallen tree crashes into Jennings home

Max Pacioretty was in a unique, if not uncomfortable spot going into NHL free agency coming off tearing his right Achilles tendon twice in the past year.Turns out it was just the right time to hit the market. The post-pandemic hockey landscape meant another year with just a $1 million increase to the salary cap, but everyone in the league knows it’s set for a big leap next summer. That made short contracts — many with performance bonuses like Pacioretty’s with the Washington Capitals — a popular route for players and teams willing to take moderate risks and kick money down the road.“We had limited cap space, and we were trying to add certain elements to the team,” Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said Sunday. “That opportunity within the CBA to have a lower cap hit and carry over if those bonuses are achieved was appealing to us because we got him at a $2 million cap hit instead of a higher cap hit, which we might not have been able to afford.”They weren’t alone.
