SAN JOSE — Multiple brush fires near San Jose highways that broke out Thursday afternoon were as a result of suspected arsons, according to the California Highway Patrol.The San Jose Fire Department confirmed a brush fire between Parkmoor Avenue and Interstate 280 at 2:20 p.m. Thursday. While it forced brief lane and ramp closures, all were reopened by 6 p.m., according to a SigAlert.#SJFD crews are responding to a vegetation fire between Parkmoor Ave. and 280. Injured San Jose Sharks center Nico Sturm will miss at least the team’s next two games, starting with tonight’s game with the Arizona Coyotes, and it’s unclear when he might be able to return, coach David Quinn said.Sturm, injured in the third period Tuesday when the Sharks hosted the Winnipeg Jets, did not make the trip with the team to Arizona. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Max Scherzer had surgery for a herniated disk in his lower back and will miss the start of next season for the World Series champion Texas Rangers. General manager Chris Young said Friday that Scherzer, who was removed from the roster during the World Series because of back discomfort, had surgery Thursday after injections and other less-evasive treatments didn’t relieve the pain.
