LAS VEGAS - The first of two teens accused of intentionally running down a former Southern California police chief on his bicycle was booked into Clark County, Nevada Detention Center Thursday to face charges as an adult.Records show Jesus Ayala, 18, the accused driver who was 17 at the time, faces 18 charges including murder, attempted murder, battery with the use of a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, and numerous larceny and burglary charges. Ayala, and Jzamir Keys, 16, who is identified as the second suspect, were both due to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Thursday afternoon. Keys, who police identified as the passenger, faces charges of murder, attempted murder and battery.The mothers of both teens addressed the allegations against their sons on Wednesday."I don't know why he did this," Alaya's mother told KTLA's sister station KLAS in Las Vegas. The Hawaiian native worked at the airline as a flight attendant when she was 18 and was later selected to become the “face” of the airlines logo, which is known as Pualani, or Hawaiian for “flower of the sky.”Hawaiian Airlines has used the vivid image since 1973 in a few variations, with the brand most recently giving it a refresh in 2017. ALBANY — A shooting at a business Thursday prompted a huge police response and closed part of Interstate 80, authorities said.It was not known immediately if anybody was shot or whether police fired their weapons.Officers were called to the 1000 block of the Eastshore Hwy, near Buchanan Street, about 11:15 a.m., authorities said. ALBANY, Calif. (KRON) -- A suspect involved in a shooting at a Toyota Service Center was shot by responding Berkeley Police Department officers Thursday morning, police say.At 11:14 a.m., Berkeley police responded to a shooting at the Toyota Service Center in Albany, the department said. Officers on scene located a victim as well as a suspect. After locating the suspect, gunfire occurred between the suspect and Berkeley police, according to authorities.Berkeley PD requested assistance from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office after the shooting.There is an internal investigation underway to determine if the officer followed department protocol in the shooting, Berkeley police officials said.Police are asking the public to avoid the area. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota officials on Thursday approved plans for the expansion of a solar energy project that a utility says will be one of the largest in the country with the capability of powering more than 150,000 homes.The state Public Utilities Commission approved Xcel Energy’s expansion of the Sherco Solar project, adding a 250-megawatt array to a 460-megawatt array now under construction. The utility says all phases of the project will be finished by 2025.The expansion will cost about $406 million, bringing Xcel’s total investment in the project to more than $1 billion, the utility said. The total 710-megawatt project will be enough to power more than 150,000 homes annually.The solar generation will be near an existing coal-fired plant in Becker, Minnesota, northwest of Minneapolis.
