Extreme heat drives MLS to change games; how it impacts Austin FC AUSTIN (KXAN) -- With extreme heat dominating most of the nation this summer, Major League Soccer is taking steps to protect players, staff and fans. In June, the League announced that Austin FC's July 21 game would get pushed back from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. due to the heat.This summer has been one of the hottest summers on record. The City of Austin began deploying "cooling tents" this week to help people. LIVE BLOG: 539 fans donated, $94K raised so far for Family Eldercare Summer Fan Drive AUSTIN (KXAN) — For more than 30 years, Family Eldercare has been running a Summer Fan Drive to keep people cool amid Texas' summer heat.This year's drive comes on a week with multiple days in a row topping out over 100°. KXAN meteorologists forecast the excessive heat will continue for the next one to two weeks. On Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., people can drop off their fans at KXAN, Roger Beasley Mazda locations and Whittlesey Landscape Supplies. They can also donate online. Les Claypool coming to the Palace Theatre ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Palace Theatre announced they will be hosting Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. Claypool is best known for being the frontman, bassist and musical mad genius of the legendary progressive rock band Primus. The Fearless Flying Frog Brigade was originally formed in 2000 while Claypool was on a hiatus from Primus, but the experimental rock group was reformed in 2023, adding some new members, including Sean Lennon on guitar. As part of their set, Claypool and company will perform Pink Floyd's 1977 album "Animals". Denver’s fatal fentanyl overdoses rose 16% in first half of 2023 Nearly 150 people died of fentanyl overdoses in Denver in the first six months of 2023, and the city’s public health agency asked people who are going to use drugs to take precautions.The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment reported 228 overdoses in the first half of the year, including 146 that involved fentanyl — a 16% increase in deaths attributed to the potent opioid compared the same time period in 2022.It’s possible those numbers could rise as investigations into recent deaths continue.In 2022, 453 people died of overdoses in Denver, including 244 that involved fentanyl.The Denver health department said law enforcement has reported increased availability of fentanyl powder, and that pills sold illegally have had a higher fentanyl content recently.
